Purple on green striped Amaryllis

While indoor gardening isn't exactly what I had in mind when I started this blog, I have realized that having growing plants and esp. flowering plants in the winter is essential.
This winter in particular which hasn't seemed like winter makes it tempting to put out plants which would succumb to the nightly freezes or wither during the hot, dry days.
Still the chores outside go on, and I have had to do supplemental watering for many of my container plants. Can't remember ever having to do that in January before.
The farmers esp. all our vineyards are worried about an early bud break and I eye my fruit trees and grapes anxiously. My grapes were damaged last year, but managed to recover. I wonder how many years they can sustain that?
The pruning is now done, thanks to Stuart climbing the ladders and doing the hard, scary work on the pear, willow and climbing roses.
The days are getting longer and the mornings brighter...all would be well, if only we had some rain.
It is predicted tonight, but the cloud cover is mighty thin.
