Kumquat on a gray day!

Kumquat on a gray day!

Gardening in winter is more than just doing all sorts of chores. For me, it is trying to find something new and interesting to appreciate. On a gray day like this one, I went looking for some winter color now that all the chrysanthemums are gone and the violas etc. aren't blooming yet. I found some Sweet Alyssum, some barely starting to bloom calendulas, and finally turned to the greenhouse...Ah moment...geranimums, lemons and kumquat...saved from the ravages of the freezing weather we have had. The nicest thing is the scent of both the regular geranium and then the scent of the lemon scented one. delicious.
Back out in the yard, I cleaned out the brassica bed, and pruned suckers off of the pear tree.
For the final as the sun finally came out, I redistributed some of the oak leaves that have piled up by the house. More on this later.
